HYBRID COAL & GAS TURBINE (HCGT) TECHNOLOGY
- Hybrid Coal Gas Turbine Technology can significantly reduce
fugitive gas emissions from underground coal mines and
potentially save the coal mining industry millions of dollars
annually in reduced expenditure for managing waste coal.
- The HCGT process involves burning gas, waste coal or
biomass in a rotating kiln to produce hot exhaust gases
which in turn pass through a specially adapted heat
exchanger to produce steam, the steam spins the turbine
to produce electricity.
- HCGT can use low quality energy sources, high sulphur
and high ash content coal, tailings, lignite, biomass or
municipal waste as its fuel to generate power and turn
what’s currently regarded as waste, into electricity.
|
|
|
HCGT fills a gap in the power
generation arket that large-scale
power generators can’t.
- The intellectual property contained within the system is
predominantly around the combustion process where the
combustion gases are manipulated in a way that ensures
continuous combustion whereas other systems would lose
their capability of burning these fuels.
- A typical HCGT system is 5 MWh to 30 MWh package.
The system is purpose designed for each project application.
A typical system is very economical and highly competitive
with large power stations.
- The HCGT can utilize biomass as a fuel source, such as
sugar cane waste or wood chip waste from milling operations
|
Key Features:
- 5-30MWh electrical output
- Utilises waste products for fuel
- Destroys methane at the sub-combustible
concentrations in mine vent air
- Stable operation with variable and low quality fuels
(including biomass)
- Based on proven mainstream technology
- Economically viable and sustainable
- Able to satisfy qualification
requirements for greenhouse
gas trading schemes
|
Environmental Benefits
- Remediate waste coal. (Rehabilitation of dumps)
- Reduces potential for Acid Mine Drainage
- Up to 30% reduction in waste materials handling and cost
- Co-generation potential, greenhouse gas abatement credits
HCGT technology will significantly reduce the environmental impacts of coal mining by lowering fugitive methane emissions from underground mines and reducing acid run-off and gaseous emissions from waste coal stockpiles. At the same time it will deliver potentially significant savings
|
 |
Operational Benefits
- Handles a wide range of feed material
- Consistent level of electricity production
- Minimal maintenance
- Local skills for routine operation and maintenance
|
|
Cost Competitiveness
- Made to last 30 years
- Competitive cost per kilowatt output
(independently assessed)
- Low Cost Electricity production
- Co-Generation potential, energy savings
|
|
Typical Applications
- Coarse Waste Coal
- Fine Waste Coal
- Ventilation Air Methane
- Coal Drainage Methane
- Mine operations
- Safe Return of waste to environment
The majority of Plant components are “off the shelf” which
means that they are robust, reliable and low risk in delivery for
the company and/or project owners.
